WWU men's, women's golf teams sweep own Fall Invitational

The second-ranked Owls and third-ranked Lady Owls golfers dominated the team championships in their own WWU Fall Boone Center Invitational that concluded Sunday at Tanglewood Golf Course.

Junior Billy McKenzie shot a 7-under par 137 (65-72) to earn the individual title in the men's division, steering the Owls' "Burgundy" squad to the team championship with a 7-under 569 total (279-290). On the women's side, sophomore Katie Warren locked up the individual title with a 5-over 149 (71-78) as the Lady Owls' "Burgundy team finished with a 27-over 603 (285-318) to secure the team championship.

Junior David Houlding followed McKenzie in second place with a 6-under 138 (69-69), while freshman Brad Kane - playing for the Owls' "Green" team - took third with an even-par 144 (73-71). Sophomore Jack Clarkson, a "Burgundy" member, tied for fifth with a 1-over 145 (73-72).

Sophomore Will Rushworth (71-79) - playing for the "Green" team - and a pair of "Burgundy" players, sophomore Alasdair McDougall (72-78) and junior Matt Wells (73-77), shared 12th place at 6-over 150. Sophomore Mark Martin finished 15th with a 7-over 151 (80-71).

Senior Alejandra Ferrer - a member of the Lady Owls' "Green" team - came in behind Warren in third place with a 9-over 153 (77-76). Senior Jodie Peacock was fourth with a 10-over 154 (75-79), while sophomore Megan Cullen took fifth with a 12-over 156 (75-81).

Sophomore Andrea Agniel, another "Green" member, finished seventh with a 16-over 160 (81-79), while senior Myriam Hassan placed eighth with a 17-over 161 (81-80). Sophomore Alex Bankovich - also on the "Green" squad - came in ninth with a 20-over 164 (82-82).

Senior Joni Purvis (84-87) and sophomore Nikki Callahan (87-84) tied for 11th with a pair of 27-over 171s.

Both William Woods teams compete Sept. 22-23 in the Central Methodist University Eagle Invitational.
