FAYETTE - Westminster College junior Glenn Teubner and senior Jesse Edwards came in first and second, respectively, to steer the Blue Jays cross country team to a second-place finish in Saturday's season-opening Central Methodist Eagle Invitational.
In the women's division, senior Brier Skogsberg finished second as the Lady Blue Jays also took second overall.
Teubner won his first collegiate race with a time of 16 minutes, 43.18 seconds, helping the Westminster men compile 34 points. Edwards placed a close second in 16:46.84.
Also finishing in the top 10 for the Blue Jays was senior Will Megl, eighth in 18:13.20. Sophomore Nathan Wilson placed 11th in 18:42, senior Nathan Fox (19:08.21) followed in 12th and freshman Andrew Patterson (21:10.34) came in 14th.
Skogsberg posted a second-place time of 19:55.63 as the Westminster women recorded 31 points. Joining Skogsberg in the top 10 for the Lady Blue Jays were sophomore Taylor Howard (fourth, 20:56.89), freshman Jessica Kuykendall (fifth, 21:04.90), and sophomore Madison Zack (ninth, 22:29.64).
Senior Claire Gibby also placed 11th in 24:04.84 and freshman Cora Pantierre took 15th in 31:36.05.
Both Westminster teams run in the Principia (Ill.) College Invitational at 5 p.m. Friday.
