Tax bills set to be mailed Nov.1, returned Dec. 31

The 2015 tax bills will be mailed Nov. 1 and need to be returned by Dec. 31 to avoid penalties.

All vehicles with the correct year, make and model need to be identified on the statements, including vehicles titled to the taxpayer's name on Jan. 1, 2015, according to a press release. Trailers also need to be listed and any corrections to the statements need to be made through the county Assessor Office at (573) 642-0766.

Callaway County Collector Pam Oestreich said that owners of escrowed real estate will still receive statements.

The turnaround on mailed tax payments is the following day until Dec. 21. Payments received after that date will be required to have paid receipts in the appropriate colored envelope and returned by Jan. 15, 2016. In addition to turning the appropriate documents in personally or mailing them, the drop box at the front of the courthouse will be available for drop-off paperwork. The documents will be collected at midnight on Dec. 31, payments collected from the dropbox after that time will be considered late and will be penalized, according to the release.

The final postmark for mailed documents will need to be Dec. 31. Documents postmarked after this date will be penalized.

Credit card payments will not be accepted over the phone, but taxes can be paid online at www.callawaycollector.com.

The 2016 Assessment Form will be enclosed with individual tax statements, which can be mailed without penalty after Jan. 1, 2016. They can also be filed electronically at www.callaway.missouriassessors.com.
