Hornets cross country team finishes third at Hannibal meet

HANNIBAL - Sophomores Mason Gaines and Nathan Quick both medalled as the Fulton Hornets cross country team came in third out of 12 teams at the Frank Lemons Invitational on Thursday.

Gaines finished eighth in 18 minutes and 55 seconds, while Quick took 14th in 19:20. Also placing for Fulton were junior Chaz Ballard (16th, 19:39), sophomore Gabe Luebbert (23rd, 20:07), and junior Sabin Cassidy (34th, 20:42).

Senior Rachel Quick placed 19th in 25:38 in the varsity girls' division as Fulton finished sixth as a team. Other finishers for the Lady Hornets included sophomore Adrea Shadbolt (24th, 26:38), junior Katie Lowry (27th, 26:54), sophomore Olivia Rice (43rd, 29:07), and junior Mary Hinchie (50th, 31:29).

"It was a challenging course due to the hills, resulting in slower race times, but the team raced their hearts out and represented Fulton well," Fulton head coach George Yates said.

Medalling for Fulton in the combined junior varsity boys/girls' division were junior Jared Eliuk (second, 21:08) and sophomore Elisa Kuss (fifth, 27:17).

Also placing for the Hornets were freshman Canyon Milligan (11th, 22:13), freshman Zach Schwinkie (12th, 22:14), sophomore Richie Narancich (22nd, 23:20), junior Brenden Dungan (30th, 24:18), freshman Aaron Eliuk (32nd, 24:40), freshman Clayton Prettyman (36th, 25:03), senior John Burch (37th, 25:27), and freshman Bud Wood (54th, 29:47).

Emiley Frasier (fourth, 11:49) and Kalyn Wolfmeier (14th, 12:31) both medalled in the middle school girls' division as Fulton came in fourth as a team. Other finishers for the Lady Hornets included Alexis Martin (25th, 13:36), Brooke Whyte (28th, 13:55), and Emme Curran (29th, 14:01).

Fulton also took fourth place as a team in the middle school boys' division. Placing for the Hornets were Sam Hrabovsky (19th, 11:35), Hunter Hampton (25th, 12:13), Lane Masters (29th, 12:30), Walter Larson (33rd, 13:00), and Brennan Meyerhoff (35th, 13:33).

Fulton's varsity teams return to Hannibal for the North Central Missouri Conference championships at 4 p.m. Thursday.
