Hornets cross country team comes in second at Camdenton

CAMDENTON - Sophomore Mason Gaines finished third individually in 17 minutes, .14 seconds as the Fulton Hornets cross country team took second place overall in the small-school division at Saturday's 11th-annual Laker 5K at Ha Ha Tonka State Park.

Gaines was one of five medalists for Fulton. Sophomore Nathan Quick was next in ninth place in 18:03.58, junior Tanner Steffen came in 12th in 18:15.58, junior Chaz Ballard was 16th in 18:31.02, and sophomore Gabe Luebbert took 18th in 18:37.14.

In the varsity girls' division, senior Rachel Quick (17th, 23:17.14) and sophomore Adrea Shadbolt (19th, 23: 19.77) both medalled as Fulton took fourth place as a team.

Also placing for the Lady Hornets were freshman Eryn Jones (21st, 23:48.74), sophomore Olivia Rice (32nd, 25:36.33), and Elisa Kuss (33rd, 25:37.02).

The Hornets - led by junior Sabin Cassidy's 26th-place time of 19:37.74 - took fifth place in the junior varsity boys' division. Other place-finishers for Fulton included sophomore Tyler Hickerson (33rd, 19:55.30), senior Luke Lohmeyer (34th, 19:55.92), freshman Zach Schwinkie (39th, 20:22.39), and freshman Canyon Milligan (46th, 20:45.39).

Fulton runs at the Frank Lemons Invitational in Hannibal at 4 p.m. Thursday.
