Rotary, Sun team up again for Warming Tree collection

The Fulton Sun's Warming Tree is standing again in the newsroom's front office at 115 E. Fifth Street, waiting to be decorated with hats, mittens, socks, gloves, coats and scarves to help prepare Callaway County kids for the cold months ahead.

The Fulton Sun and the Fulton Rotary club are working together to help the needy children and adults of Callaway County by asking the Callaway community to donate new or gently used items for the greater cause. In addition to what's placed on the Warming Tree, donations are also accepted at Atlas Physical Therapy, Central Bank, Farmers Mutual Insurance, Bank Star One, Davis Realty and all locations of Callaway Bank. All locations are also requesting blankets for donation. Blankets and warm bedding are items that are often overlooked during the winter season, Rotarian Mary Ann Beahon said.

The Rotary Club joined the Fulton Sun about four years ago, when the project started in 2011.

"We thought it was a wonderful project to expand upon because there's always a need," Beahon said. "When it gets cold you don't want to think about people not having proper outer garments."

All donated items will be passed along to SERVE.
