Locals were invited to compete in a chili cook-off to prepare the Callaway County teams for the 2016 Relay for Life. Approximately 80 people attended the event and 10 people participated in the chili competition, Event Leader Linda Boshers said.
"This was to prepare for teams and get back in the groove," she added.
The five judges, which included Assessor Jody Paschal and Commissioner Gary Jungermann, chose the following three cooks as winners of the cook-off:
• 1st - David Shawley
• 2nd - Donald Dillard
• 3rd - Chris Feltner
The following winners were selected as the peoples' choice winners:
• 1st - Terri Harold
• 2nd - Chris Feltner
• 3rd - Donald Dillard
As of Saturday there are 14 teams registered for Callaway County Relay for Life, which is more than half of the group's goal of 22 teams for 2016. With the cook-off the group raised more than $800, which is higher than what was raised at the spaghetti lunch last year, Boshers said.
