Fulton's Windsor bows in sectional tennis quarterfinal

Hornets freshman Haydon Windsor's bowed in straight sets to Mexico's Jackson Crow at the Class 1, Sectional 4 individual championships on Tuesday.

Crow bested Windsor 6-4 and 6-1 to leave the Fulton freshman a win short of qualifying for the state tournament.

"I thought he fought hard all day," Hornets head coach Rob Fisher said. "It was a nice cherry on top of the season he's had."

Windsor advanced to sectional competition thanks to a second-place No. 1 singles finish at the District 8 individual championships on Monday at Jefferson City's Washington Park.

Osage's Roman Trowbridge clipped Windsor 6-1 and 6-3 in the title showdown.

Windsor survived a grueling three-set tussle with Helias' TJ Hagenhoff. After tumbling 6-0 in the opener, Windsor won the middle set 7-6 after a 7-4 victory in the tiebreak. Windsor went on to hold Hagenhoff 10-8 in a third-set tiebreak.

Windsor logged another three-set victory in quarterfinal play, this one against Richland's Scott McCarty. Windsor triumphed 6-3 in the first set, McCarty took the second frame 6-4, then fell to Windsor in a tiebreak 10-4 in the third.

At No. 2 singles, Fulton junior Grant Hendricks dropped a 6-1, 6-2 quarterfinal decision to Richland's Logan Mathis.

Hornets sophomore Justin Adams and Dustin Lee lost to Spencer Hockman and Ben Goedrick of Osage in straight sets of 6-0 at No. 1 doubles.

Fulton's duo of sophomore James Hill and freshman Devin Ferro stumbled 6-3 and 6-1 to Richland's Brandon Long and Quentin Ashburn at No. 2 doubles.
