Missouri School for the Deaf senior Benson Goodwin and freshman Elizabeth Harrison both failed to qualify for the Class 1 state championships in their respective events at Saturday's Sectional 1 championships at MICDS High School.
The top four sectional finishers in each event advanced to the Class 1 state meet Friday and Saturday at Lincoln University's Dwight T. Reed Stadium in Jefferson City.
Goodwin fell one spot short of qualifying in the boys' high jump, coming in fifth at 5 feet, 8 inches.
Harrison took sixth in the girls' long jump (14-10 3/4) and seventh in the high jump (4-4).
