No. 5 Lady Owls tie for second at NAIA golf championships

The William Woods Lady Owls golf team's scramble on the last day was well worth it.

Fifth-ranked William Woods shot a combined 305 in Friday's fourth and final round of the NAIA national women's golf championships, rallying to end up in a tie for second place at Savannah Quarters Country Club.

The finish was the Lady Owls' best in program history. William Woods entered Friday in sixth place, but fueled its charge up the leaderboard by delivering the second-best score of the round and equalling its lowest tally at the championships.

The Lady Owls (305-307-316-305) finished in a three-way tie for second place with SCAD-Savannah (308-308-311-306) and Dalton State (309-303-304-317), each team logging cumulative 81-over par, 1,233 totals. Northwood University (308-301-306-296) clinched the national team championship with a 1,211 score.

William Woods was paced individually by freshman Katie Warren, who marked her first-ever appearance at the NAIA championships by taking fifth place with a 12-over par 300 (77-73-75-75). Warren was named to the national championships all-tournament team.

Fellow freshman Celia Mansour finished in a four-way tie for 22nd with a 309 (76-74-79-80), while junior Jodie Peacock ended up in a four-way share for 33rd with a 313 (76-78-80-79). Meanwhile, junior Myriam Hassan climbed 10 spots to finish in a three-way tie for 54th with a 319 (78-82-84-75).

Freshman Megan Cullen also placed 57th with a 320 (76-86-82-76).

Dalton State's Julia McQuilken was the individual national champion with a 4-over 292 (74-70-71-77).
