No. 5 Lady Owls tied for third at NAIA golf championships

POOLER, Ga. - At the midway point of the NAIA national women's golf championships, the fifth-ranked William Woods University Lady Owls are part of the talk when it comes to a title.

William Woods combined to shoot 307 as a team in Wednesday's second round at Savannah Quarters Country Club to end the day with a share of third place overall. The Lady Owls - coming off a 305 score in Tuesday's first round - are 36-over par with a 612 total and are tied with Dalton State (309-303).

William Woods finds itself just three shots behind Northwood (Florida) University, which jumped four spots Wednesday to take over first place with a 609 (308-301). University of Cumberlands also made a big move in the second round, climbing seven positions to sit in second place with a 610 (312-298).

The Lady Owls were led Wednesday by a pair of freshmen - Katie Warren and Celia Mansour - who shot 73 and 74, respectively, and are part of a five-way tie for seventh place with 6-over, 150 totals. Mansour finished with a 76 in Tuesday's opening round and Warren had a 77.

William Woods junior Jodie Peacock was tied for 25th with a 154 (76-78) and fellow junior Myriam Hassan was in a share for 59th with a 160 (78-82). Freshman Megan Cullen was tied for 72nd with a 162 (76-86).

Houston-Victoria's Heather Shake is at the top of the individual leaderboard with a 1-under 143 score (73-70).
