North Callaway squads both take fourth at EMO championships

Senior Steven Coleman was selected the conference's male hurdler and sprinter of the year in directing the Thunderbirds to a fourth-place finish tie at the Eastern Missouri Conference championships Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, freshman Reyna Schmauch was chosen the EMO female distance runner of the year as the Ladybirds also came in fourth overall.

Coleman triumphed in the boys' 100 meters in 11.35 seconds, while prevailing in both the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles with respective times of :14.84 and :41.81. He took second in the 200 in :22.84, barely bowing to Bowling Green's Adam Holt (:22.81).

Sophomore Levi Gilman also provided a pair of third-place finishes in the 110 hurdles (:16.53) and 300 hurdles (:42.75) as North Callaway and Van-Far both produced 83 points. Bowling Green claimed the EMO boys' team title with 182 points, while Wright City was second (100.5) and Mark Twain took third (95).

Junior Manzell Payne finished third in the high jump (5 feet, 8 inches) and fifth in the triple jump (38-3 1/2) for the Thunderbirds. Junior Will Crawford came in fifth in the pole vault (8-0).

North Callaway's 400 relay of senior Michael Pezold, Crawford, Gilman and senior Mason Trams placed third in :48.17, while the 800 relay of Crawford, Gilman, freshman Skyler Barker and Pezold took fourth in 1:41.53.

Schmauch was victorious in the girls' 3,200 in 12:51.71 and came in fourth in the 1,600 in 5:50.85 to help North Callaway compile 71 points. She also took fourth in the 400 (1:06.39).

Host Montgomery County wrapped up the EMO girls' team championship with 173 points, Bowling Green followed in second place (156) and Wright City finished third (83).

Sophomore Nichole Kelly chipped in with a fourth-place finish in the high jump (4-6) for the Ladybirds, while freshman Carley VanBoening placed fourth in the pole vault (7-0). Junior Patri Eckert was also fifth in both the 200 (:29.07) and 400 (1:08.15), and freshman Kallie Jo Lehenbauer came in fifth in the 100 hurdles (:18.58).

North Callaway's 400 relay of freshman Kyla Bertschinger, Eckert, Lehenbauer and sophomore Jaclyn McMurtry finished third in :57.01, while the same quartet also took third in the 800 relay in 1:58.39. The 1,600 relay of McMurtry, junior Erinn Bush and freshmen Alyssa Rinehart and Alyssa Moore placed fifth in 4:49.77.

North Callaway competes at Centralia at 4 p.m. Monday.
