Wildcats rally to record sixth straight victory

NEW BLOOMFIELD - The surging New Bloomfield Wildcats rallied behind back-to-back big innings to keep their winning streak intact.

New Bloomfield overcame a 4-0 deficit by putting up five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and four more in the sixth to fashion a 9-4 comeback victory over Show-Me Conference foe St. Elizabeth on Tuesday night.

The triumph was the sixth straight for the Wildcats, who improved to 10-7 overall and 3-3 in the SMC. New Bloomfield has won 10 of its last 11 after starting the season 0-6.

Junior catcher Derek Shikles went 3-for-4 with a double, a run batted in and a run scored to help power the Wildcats' 13-hit attack. Junior third baseman Tyler Fennewald also finished 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored.

Junior shortstop Grant Nichols was 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored twice, while senior starter Brady Wiler went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Wiler worked five innings, allowing four runs - three earned - and just four hits to pick up the victory. He struck out five and walked none.

New Bloomfield travels to South Callaway for an SMC matchup at 5 p.m. Friday.
