William Woods claims AMC series win over Williams Baptist

The Owls plated three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to complete an American Midwest Conference doubleheader sweep of the Eagles 3-0 on Saturday at Backer Sports Complex.

William Woods (17-6, 5-3 AMC) outhit Williams Baptist 6-4 to claim the series victory.

Senior right fielder Nick Spagnola finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, while sophomore catcher Dakota Smith went 2-for-3. Junior left fielder Larry Price was 1-for-2 with a run scored, while senior third baseman Austin Clapp finished 1-for-3 with an RBI to round out the Owls' offense.

Senior James Ball threw two innings of relief to pick up the win. Ball held Williams Baptist hitless, striking out two and walking one. Senior starter Adam Brush threw seven shutout-innings for William Woods, striking out six, walking one and allowing four in earning a no decision.

The Owls racked up 10 hits in taking the day's first game 7-3. After falling behind 4-1, the Eagles scored twice in the top of the sixth inning to draw within a run.

William Woods responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning before retiring Williams Baptist in order in the top of the seventh to end the game.

Senior designated hitter Dustin Kremer was 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and a run scored. Spagnola was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Price was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Junior pitcher John Cavness picked up the win for the Owls in five innings. Cavness struck out two, walked one and allowed three earned runs on seven hits.

William Woods stays home for today's AMC doubleheader with Park University. Games will begin at 1 and 3 p.m., respectively.
