Westminster softball team drops home tilt to Briar Cliff

The Lady Blue Jays were outhit 15-9 in a 9-5 loss to the Lady Chargers on Sunday at Backer Sports Complex.

Westminster (0-4) led 5-2 midway through the fifth, but Briar Cliff tallied four runs in the bottom of the fifth and three more in the sixth.

Freshman shortstop Kim Morrison went 2-for-3 with a run scored for the Lady Blue Jays, while freshman pitcher Abby Bartley (South Callaway) was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a double.

Bartley threw 4 1/3 innings to take the loss. She allowed six earned runs on 10 hits and finished with one walk and one strikeout.

Westminster opens its home schedule with a doubleheader against Stephens College on Wednesday at Owls Field. The contests are slated to begin at 5 and 7 p.m., respectively.
