WWU president acknowledged as strong, female role model

Gutsy Gals Inspire Me has recognized William Woods University President Jahnae H. Barnett as a strong female role model. Barnett, who is in her 25th year as president, was recognized for her leadership.

According to a WWU press release, "Under her leadership, the school has evolved from a small, single-campus, rural women's college with about 500 students into a statewide, co-ed university with four permanent sites serving more than 3,000 students, including many from other countries."

The Gutsy Gal Award recognizes women based on "courage, risk-taking, persistence in the face of obstacles, strong personal character - in short: Gutsy-ness," according to the press release.

Deborah Hutchison, founder and president of Gutsy Gals Inspire Me, is a William Woods alumna. She has also served on the university's board of trustees since 1997.

Hutchison said Gutsy Gals Inspire Me is meant to honor strong female role models and inspire women and girls to strive to achieve their goals.

"The Gutsy Gal Award honors women of courage and vision," Hutchison said in the release. "Authentic women who have taken risks, understanding the odds, undaunted by challenge and setback. Women who are determined and passionate - who know how to laugh."
