William Woods men fall late to Park

Owls sophomore guard Ryan Hill's 22 points couldn't lift them in a 66-65 AMC loss to the Pirates on Saturday afternoon.

A basket by Park's Mylin Jordan with 58 seconds left supplied the game's final margin, ending William Woods' win streak at two games.

The Owls (6-11, 3-6 American Midwest Conference) trailed 30-27 at halftime, but quickly erased the deficit with a 7-2 run to open the second half.

The Pirates (6-6, 5-3 AMC) would grab the lead right back as the two teams traded the advantage back and forth for most of the final 20 minutes.

Hill's free throw with 5:22 remaining pushed William Woods to a 57-52 lead. Park's Freddie Manyawu converted a layup with 3:30 left to tie the game at 60-all.

It would remain a one-possession contest for the duration of the game. Junior guard Austin Lowery's game-winning 3-point attempt was off the mark as time expired.

Freshman forward Darrien Dickey supplied 10 points for the Owls as they shot 40 percent (21-of-52) from the field. Senior forward Derrick Hayes scored nine points and matched Dickey with a game-high seven rebounds as William Woods prevailed on the glass 40-35.

Manyawu guided the Pirates with 15 points, while Marcus Johnson added 14. Aaron Powers had 12 points and a team-high six rebounds, while Jordan accounted for 10 points.

Park finished 42 percent (27-of-64) from the field.

The Owls toppled the St. Louis College of Pharmacy Eutectics 78-50 in AMC home action last Thursday night. Senior forward Nate Bitner guided William Woods with 15 points, and Hill accounted for 12.

Hayes and Lowery each finished with 10 points, while sophomore forward Jack Mueller totaled 10 rebounds.

The Owls host AMC rival Columbia College at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
