North Callaway girls end season in District 8 loss to Hermann

The third-seeded Ladybirds were outscored 15-7 in the third quarter of their 54-44 first-round, upset loss to the No. 6 Lady Bearcats at the Class 3, District 8 tournament on Monday.

North Callaway finishes it season at 18-8.

The Ladybirds trailed 27-25 at halftime, before the Lady Bearcats' crucial spurt. Down 42-32 to start the final quarter, North Callaway's deficit reached 12 points, but was trimmed down to seven during the final 8 minutes.

Hermann - owners of a 37-27 season-opening win over the Ladybirds on Nov. 24 in Kingdom City - matched North Callaway's 12 fourth-quarter points to secure the 10-point triumph.

The Ladybirds were outshot at the free-throw line 23-4.

"I have to give Hermann credit; they played better than we did," North Callaway head coach Matt Miller said. "The shots just didn't fall tonight. I'm still very proud of the girls."

Senior guard Elaine Brinker posted game highs of 18 points, seven steals and five assists for the Ladybirds. Brinker concludes her North Callaway career in second place on both the all-time assists and steals list.

Ladybirds junior guard Madison Ausfahl tallied nine points and five steals, while junior guard Erinn Bush finished with eight points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

After a nine-game win streak, North Callaway finished the season on a two-game losing streak.

Brooke Grosse and Tess Schannuth each logged a team-high 13 points for the Lady Bearcats.
