No. 19 William Woods suffers setback in doubleheader

The Lady Owls allowed four unanswered runs in their 8-4 loss to Mid-America Christian University (Okla.) Lady Evangels on Friday.

William Woods (1-3) began the day with a 12-0 six-inning loss to University of Science and Arts (Okla.) Drovers.

Senior pinch hitter Caroline Sicht roped a three-run double to right field to help the Lady Owls tie the Lady Evangels at 4-all in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Mid-American Christian posted a run apiece in the fifth and sixth innings, then pushed two more runs home in the seventh.

Junior center field Hannah Campbell went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored for William Woods. Sophomore second baseman Alexi Cavins was 2-for-3 with a run scored as the Lady Owls notched nine hits.

William Woods senior Julie Scheer pitched four innings in taking the loss. She allowed five runs - four earned - and six hits, while walking three and fanning two.

The Lady Evangels (5-3) collected 11 hits.

The Drovers tallied five runs off of Lady Owls freshman starter Allison Waskow in the top of the first inning of Friday's opener.

They'd add two more in the fifth, then wrap the game up with a five-run sixth inning.

William Woods junior designated hitter Emily Murphy was 2-for-3 as her team managed just five hits. Waskow was the losing pitcher, allowing five earned runs on four hits and striking out one in an inning of work.

The University of Science and Arts (9-1) racked up 16 hits.

The Owls remained in Oklahoma for games against MidAmerica Nazerene and Friends (Kan.) University, respectively, on Saturday. Results were not available at press time.
