Westminster women's spurt snapped by Iowa Wesleyan

The Lady Blue Jays were victimized from behind the arc by the Lady Tigers as their season-high nine-game winning streak was snapped in Monday night's 79-58 SLIAC loss on Henry Iba Court.

Westminster College slipped to 16-5 on the season and 13-2 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference as Iowa Wesleyan connected on 15-of-30 3-pointers. The Lady Tigers shot 52 percent (31-of-60) for the game.

The Lady Tigers scored the game's first seven points, which would match their largest lead of the first half. The Lady Blue Jays drew within 25-20 on junior guard Kasey Gatson's jumper with 8 minutes, 30 seconds left.

Iowa Wesleyan responded with an 8-0 run and took a 33-25 advantage into halftime.

Westminster - which manhandled the Lady Tigers 67-43 on Jan. 14 in Mount Pleasant, Iowa - got no closer than six points for the rest of the game. The Lady Blue Jays shot 38 percent (21-of-56) from the field.

Sophomore forward Krista Armontrout paced Westminster with a career-high 19 points. Gatson added 15 points, while junior Sadie Theroff added 12 points and matched Armontrout with a game-high seven rebounds.

Whitney Godden tallied a game-high 24 points for Iowa Wesleyan (15-6, 12-2). Rachel Williams finished with 17 points, while Kaylee Mosely added 16.

Godden, Mosely and Williams grabbed five rebounds apiece, lifting the Lady Tigers to a 33-31 edge on the boards.

The Lady Blue Jays close their home schedule with a SLIAC matchup against Fontbonne University at 6 tonight. Westminster defeated the Lady Griffins 78-68 on Jan. 21 in St. Louis.
