Goodwin, Eagles claim fourth place at GPSD tournament

The Missouri School for the Deaf Eagles were outscored 10-8 in overtime of their 53-51 loss to the Oklahoma Indians in the third-place game of the Great Plains School for the Deaf Tournament on Saturday.

The Eagles (8-9) - the No. 4 seed - trailed 17-16 at halftime and and fell behind 29-26 to start the fourth. MSD senior forward Benson Goodwin scored 10 of his game-high 27 points in the fourth quarter as the Eagles tied the No. 3 Indians 43-all to end regulation.

Senior guard Jeff Porter added seven points for MSD.

Sean Thomas Sledd led Oklahoma with 18 points, while Kentrell McCoy posted 17.

The Eagles stumbled 55-19 to the top-seeded Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf Trojans in Friday's semifinal. MSD trailed 31-7 at halftime and were pestered into 37 turnovers by the Trojans. Goodwin paced the Eagles with eight points and junior guard Joseph Allen finished with four.

Minnesota got a game-high 18 points from Kyrell Cummings, while Garrett Springer chipped in with 11.

MSD hosts Calvary Lutheran in its home finale at 7:30 tonight.
