Mann scores 22 in South Callaway girls' win over Newburg

Freshman point guard Adrian Mann's 22 points led all players in the Lady Bulldogs' 53-41 non-conference triumph over the Lady Wolves on Saturday at Columbia College's Southwell Complex.

Down 13-8 after one quarter, South Callaway responded with a 14-7 showing in the second, grabbing a 22-20 edge at halftime.

"We've had some slow first quarters and third quarters and today was no exception," Lady Bulldogs head coach Darren Humphrey said. "We had to slow down and show a lot of patience in that first quarter.

"We went into halftime with that two-point lead and the girls just made up their mind that this was one we had to take home."

The Lady Bulldogs (13-8) outscored Newburg 31-19 in the second half.

"Defensively, we were on top of things; we came out and I think our man press really worked and it shook things up a bit," Humphrey said.

Sophomore guard Nicole Horstman finished with 19 points, while senior forward Sarah Jennings added seven.

Riley Duffy led the Lady Wolves with 15 points. Samantha Mathis contributed 14.

South Callaway plays at Belle at 5:30 p.m. Monday.
