Hentges hits milestone as South Callaway halts Hallsville

Senior guard Troy Hentges eclipsed the 1,000-point barrier for his career in the Bulldogs' 63-52 non-conference triumph over the Indians on Friday.

Hentges supplied a game-high 27 points for South Callaway (20-2).

The Bulldogs sprinted out to a 19-8 advantage after one quarter. South Callaway built its cushion with a 9-7 edge in the second to take a 28-15 lead into the break.

"We have been focusing on valuing the ball on offense over the past few weeks and now that the end of the season is upon us, it has been a bigger area of emphasis," Bulldogs head coach Tony Brandt said. "Tonight, we made great decisions offensively in the break and really took care of it."

Senior guard Cory Hanger added 14 points, handed out a team-high five assists and tied senior forward Jacob Smith with five rebounds. Senior guard Dax Helsel scored 11 points and tallied three steals.

"I still feel like our best game is out there," Brandt said. "We have played well throughout the season, but still have not reached our ceiling.

"We hope to keep tuning things this next week and make a strong push in our district."

Hunter Wiley totaled 22 points to guide three Hallsville players in double figures. Evann Sellas added 16 points, while Mason McCaleb chipped in with 10.

South Callaway secured a 62-43 win over Linn in the consolation bracket of its own junior varsity tournament on Saturday. Freshman guard Kaden Helsel led the Bulldogs with 18 points, while sophomore forward Graysan Peneston added 11.

South Callaway plays a non-conference contest at Belle at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
