No foul play suspected in death of Holts Summit man

Callaway County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a call at 10:21 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10 on Copper Road, south of Holts Summit, and discovered a man's body in a nearby lake. Officers were originally dispatched to check out a suspicious vehicle parked on private property in the neighborhood, according to a Callaway County Sheriff's Office press release.

Deputies and investigators, along with help from the Boone/Callaway Medical Examiner's Office investigated the scene. The Holts Summit Fire Protection District recovered the body from the lake, and the man was identified as Mark Wenkel, 55 of Holts Summit.

The body was transported to the medical examiner's office for an autopsy, which was completed today. According to the release, foul play is not suspected, but the official cause of death will be determined after several weeks, pending toxicology results.

The sheriff's office will continue to follow up on the on-going investigation.
