William Woods' Sanders qualifies for NAIA National Championships

Lady Owls senior Lee Anna Sanders secured her spot at the NAIA Indoor National Championships with her performance at the Jim Green Invitational on Saturday.

Sanders competed in the women's 5,000-meter run, clocking a second-place result of 18 minutes, 20.2 seconds to hit the NAIA "B' Standard. Redshirt senior Madeline Emme just missed qualifying for nationals in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing second in :09.27.

The team of junior Petra Bethea, sophomore Hannah Corbin and freshmen Loren Brooks and Megan Wilson earned second place in the 1,600-meter relay with a time of 4:11.97.

Wilson clocked a fourth-place time of 1:01.6 in the 400.

Freshman Madelyn Scrivner posted personal bests in the both the shot put and the weight throw. Scrivner earned fourth place in the shot put with a toss of 11.71 meters and placed eighth in the weight throw with a distance of 13.46.

Junior Samantha Brolaski placed eighth in the 1,600-meter run, logging a time of 5:41.92. Corbin earned seventh in the 400-meter, crossing the finish line in 1:01.53.

Junior Rhett Cook won the men's 400-meter dash in :50.26, just missing the NAIA "B' Standard. Cook finished seventh in the 200-meter dash in :22.9. Senior Nick Zink also ran in the 400, finishing in :51.65.

Junior Adam Smith earned eighth place with a personal-best mark of 14.05 in the shot put. He garnered a second top-10 finish, taking 10th in the weight throw in 14.68 meters. Senior Alonzo Findley placed 10th in the shot put with a heave of 13.38 meters.

Cook and Zink teamed with junior Marrtell Washington and freshman Phillip Kuplinski to finish eighth in the 1,600-meter relay with a time of 3:34.55.

Both squads will run at the American Midwest Conference Indoor Championships on Thursday, Feb. 19 in Elsah, Illinois.
