William Woods men complete season sweep of Lyon

The Owls' furious second-half rally culminated in a 61-57 AMC triumph over the Scots on Thursday night.

William Woods University (9-14, 6-9 American Midwest Conference) trailed 30-23 at the break, but started the second half on a 14-7 run to tie the game at 37-all with 14 minutes, 46 seconds remaining.

Lyon College (13-10, 10-6) jumped back in front and pushed its advantage to 43-39 with 11:43 to go. Senior forward Derrick Hayes' layup with 8:15 left capped off an 8-0 run by the Owls and gave them a 45-43 edge.

William Woods never trailed again in avenging a 45-42 loss to the Scots on Dec. 18 in Fulton.

Senior forward Nate Bitner tallied 14 points to pace three players in double figures for the Owls. Junior forward DJ Johnson added 13 points, while junior forward TaiRhe Turner contributed 10. Sophomore guard Ryan Hill led William Woods with five rebounds.

The Owls - who shot 64 percent in the second half - finished at 47 percent (22-of-47) for the game.

Devante Young logged team highs of 16 points and six rebounds for Lyon. Ben Worlow also supplied 14 points, while Riley Jenkins chipped in with 10 as the Scots shot 44 percent (17-of-39) as a team.

Lyon finished with a 28-23 rebounding edge.

William Woods played an AMC road game at No. 4 Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University on Saturday. Results were not at available at press time.
