State-ranked New Bloomfield girls roll past Novinger

The state-ranked Lady Wildcats roughed up the Lady Cats by outscoring them 43-8 in the first half of Saturday's commanding 63-25 victory at Moberly Area Community College.

New Bloomfield (19-3) - ranked No. 9 in Class 2 - recovered nicely after Thursday night's 70-46 Show-Me Conference loss at Tuscumbia, ranked No. 4 in Class 1.

"I was hoping that we would come out with some intensity, and we did," Lady Wildcats head coach Brett Craighead said. "We got on a roll and played really well in the first half.

"We got a lot of things accomplished."

Freshman guard Madi Craighead responded with a game-high 15 points to spark four New Bloomfield players in double figures. Senior guard Sydni Bedsworth supplied 13 points, senior forward Ashley Kelley added 11 and senior center Zoe Welschmeyer contributed 10.

Makala Findling finished with a team-high eight points for Novinger.

The Lady Wildcats return home for an SMC encounter against Chamois as part of a junior varsity boys and varsity girls-boys' tripleheader at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
