As the Missouri River continues to climb, flooding continues to plague Callaway County residents, especially those near the still-closed Routes 94 and C.

Jim Hager with the Missouri Department of Transportation said the flooding has begun to creep off the routes and into nearby fields.

The Mokane area has seen significant flooding with flood waters closing off Route C at the Mokane Bar and Grill, City Clerk Dee Pfeiffer said Tuesday. Water has also entered the Mokane Lions Club and has traveled up to the self-service gas station and American Veterans Post 153.

The rest of Route C, heading north out of Mokane to Fulton, is open, Hager said.

Lt. Clay Chism with the Callaway County Sheriff's Office said they are continuing to monitor low-lying areas prone to flooding, but so far drivers have taken appropriate measures and found alternative routes.

MoDOT warns against driving and traveling through flooded areas. According to MoDOT's flood information, 6 inches of moving water can fall a traveler on foot and 2 feet can float a car. Water moving at 2 mph can force a car off a roadway or bridge.
