Hornets use strong second half to upend Boonville

BOONVILLE - Senior guard Deareyon Estes sparked four players in double figures with 14 points as the Fulton Hornets stayed unbeaten in NCMC play with Wednesday night's convincing 60-47 win over the Boonville Pirates.

Fulton (5-1, 3-0 North Central Missouri Conference) was down 28-26 at halftime, but outscored Boonville 19-10 in the third quarter to create a 45-38 advantage. The Hornets then pulled away by outscoring the Pirates 15-9 in the fourth quarter to clinch the victory.

"We sat down hard (on defense) in the halfcourt, we stopped penetration and we found their shooters," Fulton head coach Justin Gilmore said Thursday night. "We were getting good (offensive) looks in the first half, but our shots just weren't dropping.

"I told them at halftime to keep shooting and they started falling (in the second half)."

Senior forward Deangelo Walker followed with 13 points for the Hornets, while senior guards Kalin Mitchell and Radarion Glover finished with 11 and 10, respectively. Walker and junior forward Justin Adams also collected seven rebounds apiece.

Bryce Fuemmeler topped Boonville with 14 points.

Fulton finally gets to play its first home game of the season when it squares off against Kirksville in an NCMC matchup at 8 tonight at Roger D. Davis Gymnasium.

"It feels great," Gilmore said. "I know the guys are ready to get out and play in front of their friends and families. We're excited."
