The Fulton Fire Department responded to a call yesterday concerning a vehicle fire outside the John C. Harris Community Center.

The owner of the Dodge Ram 1500 told responders that he pulled up to the intersection of Westminster and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard when his transmission stalled and he was unable to switch gears. He was able to reverse the car into a parking spot on the side of the center, and that's when the engine caught fire, Captain Carl Sassel said.

Two fire trucks responded to the call at 3:31 p.m. and were able to quickly put out the flames.

The owner of the vehicle told witnesses that a tank containing diesel fuel was in the bed of the truck, but the fire department was able to put out the fire before it reached the tank.

No one was injured in the fire and the vehicle was towed to Tom and Steve's Auto Repair.
