Auxvasse grants contractor extension on water project

City plans to repave patches of road affected by water project

The city of Auxvasse began work on its Water Improvement Project last week after several years of preparation and preliminary work. For the project, the city is adding a new well and facility - as mandated by DNR. It is also upgrading existing water mains as well as adding new mains, focusing on the city's downtown area.

The city will pave patches of streets affected by the project's construction, according to the city's April 14 draft meeting minutes.

Also at the board of aldermen meeting, the water project's contractors, Hutchins Telecom, asked for a 45-day extension on the project. The board, according to its April 14 draft meeting minutes, agreed that the extension saying it "would be fine as long as Main Street was cleaned up from the project as soon as possible," the draft minutes stated.

The city, also at its April 14 meeting, agreed to pass a resolution welcoming the Sons of the Confederate Veterans. The Auxvasse-based Sons of Confederate Veterans Elijah Gates Camp 570 recently obtained a permanent headquarters in the city. Commander Noel A. Crowson with Elijah Gates Camp previously told the Fulton Sun that the group is excited for its new permanent space, located at 107 Main St. in Auxvasse. The headquarters will serve as a meeting space for the group as well as a place for it to store its original research and artifacts.

The city also agreed to present a resolution to the Callaway Youth Expo.

In other news, the Auxvasse Police Department, during its safety report at the April 14 meeting, stated the DWI Saturation Grant will be used during the week of May 12, according to the draft meeting minutes.
