Ladybirds' Brinker to play in MBCA Missouri Challenge

North Callaway senior guard Elaine Brinker will cap off her high school career when she takes part this weekend in the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association's Missouri Challenge.

The tournament - which will showcase 160 of the state's top graduating boys' and girls' players - is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at Drury University's O'Reilly Family Event Center in Springfield. Brinker will play for the Northeast girls' squad, which will be coached by North Callaway's Matt Miller.

The Northeast team will face the St. Louis squad in the quarterfinals at noon Saturday. Here are Saturday's other quarterfinal matchups: South Central vs. Kansas City (9 a.m.), Southeast vs. Central (10:30 a.m.), and Northwest vs. Southwest (1:30 p.m.).

The semifinals will be at 9 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday, with the championship to follow at 3 p.m.

Brinker - who eclipsed 1,000 career points in her final season with the Ladybirds - was named to the MBCA Class 3 all-state team in March. She was also selected to the Missouri Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association's all-Central District squad and was a first-team all-Eastern Missouri Conference pick.

Brinker averaged 14.8 points, 6.4 assists and 5.4 steals in helping lead North Callaway to an 18-8 record.
