South Callaway blows by Eugene

Senior starter Terry Miles threw a four-hit, complete-game in the Bulldogs' 13-2, five-inning Show-Me Conference win over the Eagles on Monday.

Miles struck out four, yielded four walks and gave up two runs (one earned) for South Callaway (10-1, 4-0 SMC).

"Just like he has all year long, he battles real well," Bulldogs head coach Heath Lepper said. "He had a rough start in the first with a couple of walks, but he made pitches when he had to."

The Bulldogs responded to Eugene's run in the bottom of the first with four in the top of the second. Junior catcher Cameron Richardson tied the game with a sacrifice fly to score sophomore first baseman Graysan Peneston, then senior left fielder Mason Shoemaker put South Callaway on top with an RBI single to drive in senior third baseman Tyler Adams.

Senior shortstop Dax Helsel's RBI single to right field plated to two to end the inning's scoring for the Bulldogs. South Callaway scored two more runs in the third, tallied one in the fourth and erupted for six in the fifth to round out their offense.

Senior center fielder Cory Hanger finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs, a homer, a double and two runs scored. Adams was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, a double and two runs scored and junior designated hitter Dillon Stone was 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored twice.

Richardson finished 2-for-3 with one driven in and Helsel was 1-for-2 with three RBIs to lift the Bulldogs to a 12-hit day.

"They started hitting fairly early in the game and then continued to be aggressive at the plate and started tacking on runs late on in the game," Lepper said.

Freshman starter Kaden Helsel struck out seven in six innings of work to lift South Callaway to a 9-1 home victory over Harrisburg on Saturday.

Helsel allowed an earned run on two hits and gave up three walks.

Hanger was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, a triple, a double and two runs scored in South Callaway's 10-hit performance.

Peneston was 2-for-2 with a run scored and Dillon Stone went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Freshman third baseman Landon Horstman was 1-for-2 with a double and two runs scored, while Richardson was 1-for-2 with three RBIs and a double.

Hanger allowed seven runs - three earned - in 3 2/3 innings as South Callaway tumbled to Dixon on Saturday to suffer its first loss of the year.

Hanger walked eight, struck out three and allowed two hits as the defense behind him committed five errors.

Richardson was 2-for-3, while Hanger was 2-for-4 with a triple. Senior second baseman Trevor Miller also was 2-for-4 as each team collected eight hits.
