Fulton man arrested for second-degree arson

A Fulton man was arrested Monday night in connection with a residential structure fire earlier that evening, according to a Fulton Police Department press release.

Around 5: 40 Monday night, the Fulton Fire Department responded to a small fire at a single-story home on the 700 block of Vine Street in Fulton. Firefighters entered the house and extinguished the fire inside. The house was vacant and under renovation, according to a Fulton Fire Department press release.

The fire department ruled the fire to be "suspicious in nature" and called in the Missouri State Fire Marshal's Office to assist in the investigation.

Mark Aungerer, according to the police department press release, was identified as the suspect and arrested for second-degree arson. He was taken to the Callaway County Jail and bond was set at $4,500.

The fire department estimates damages to be close to $1,000. There were no injuries. The investigation is ongoing.
