Helsel, Peneston HRs ignite Bulldogs' romp

Senior shortstop Dax Helsel and sophomore first baseman Graysan Peneston both hit two-run home runs as the unbeaten South Callaway Bulldogs roughed up Russellville in an 11-0 SMC victory Thursday night.

Already up 7-0, South Callaway (8-0, 2-0 Show-Me Conference) broke out for four runs in the top of the sixth inning to end the game on the 10-run rule.

Helsel's homer to right with no outs in the third scored senior center fielder Cory Hanger to give the Bulldogs a 4-0 edge. After the next batter, senior second baseman Trevor Miller, was safe on an error, Peneston pounded his two-run homer to center.

Peneston went 2-for-3 with three runs batted in and two runs scored as South Callaway collected 11 hits and capitalized on five Russellville errors. Helsel finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs and scored twice, while Miller was also 2-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored.
