Oberdiek, Mann spark Lady Bulldogs to third-place finish at Versailles Invite

VERSAILLES - Senior Hannah Oberdiek and freshman Adrian Mann each won events Thursday as the South Callaway girls' track and field team came in third overall at the Versailles Invitational.

On the boys' side, senior Terry Miles and Bennett Hager both logged victories to guide South Callaway to a fourth-place team finish.

Oberdiek prevailed in the 200 in 28.65 seconds and Mann triumphed in the 800 in 2:38.19 as the Lady Bulldogs totalled 103 points. Eldon locked up the girls' team championship with 140.5 points and Clinton was second with 125.5.

Oberdiek and Mann also teamed up with senior Kailey Brooks and freshman Ashley Potter to win the 400 relay with a time of :54.33. Oberdiek finished second in the long jump (16-5) and was fourth in the 100 (:13.22), while Mann took third in the 400 (1:06.44).

Brooks recorded third-place finishes in both the 100 hurdles (:18.63) and 300 hurdles (:55.85), while senior Sarah Jennings came in fourth in both the triple jump (33-3) and high jump (5-0), and placed fifth in the 100 (:13.25). Freshman Elizabeth Luebbert took fifth in the 3,200 (14:29.94) and freshman Kaci Jordan finished sixth in the triple jump (31-8 1/2).

South Callaway's 3,200 relay of junior Haley Pate and sophomores Caitlyn Chapman, Kallie Guthrie and Josie Mealy came in second in 12:20.71, while the 800 relay of Jordan, Mealy, Pate and Chapman placed fourth in 2:07.31. The 1,600 relay of Brooks, Pate, Jordan and Mann finished fifth in 4:45.71.

Miles was victorious in the 800 (2:08.38) and Hager won the pole vault (11-0) as the Bulldogs tallied 94.33 points. California captured the boys' team title with 164.66 points, Clinton came in second (120) and Skyline (Hickory County) finished third (102.5).

Miles also tied for second in the high jump (5-8), while Hager came in sixth in the 300 hurdles (:49.45). Senior Cory Hanger took second in the 400 (:53.75) and senior Mason Shoemaker supplied a pair of third-place finishes in the 100 (:11.57) and 200 (:23.85), and was fifth in the long jump (17-8 1/2).

South Callaway's 400 relay of junior Ajay Cave, senior Dylan Hare, Hanger and Shoemaker took second in :45.97, while the 800 relay of Cave, junior Brandon Ward, Dalton Stone and freshman Kaden Helsel finished third in 1:42.52. The 1,600 relay of Ward, Miles, junior Levi Mealy and Hanger came in fourth in 3:51.25.

Sophomore Harley Kight came in fourth in the pole vault (9-6) and freshman Hunter Schroer took fifth in the discus (103-9), while senior Caleb Sconce placed sixth in the 110 hurdles (:19.97) and Hare finished sixth in the shot put (37-6).

South Callaway competed at the Northwest Lions Invitational in Cedar Hill on Saturday. Results were not available at press time.
