Missouri Valley blanks Blue Jays tennis team

The Westminster College Blue Jays tennis team tumbled to 1-7 on the season after Thursday's 9-0 non-conference home loss to the Missouri Valley College Vikings (8-5) at the Elder Tennis Courts.

Here are Thursday's singles and doubles results:

•No. 1 singles: Gabriel Pozo (MV) defeated senior Nate Connell (WC), 6-2, 6-2; No. 2: Abdul Alhamzawi (MV) def. freshman Adam Fuchs (WC), 6-0, 6-1; No. 3: Pablo Goicochea (MV) def. junior Kyle Collins (WC), 6-1, 7-5; No. 4: Greg Teal (MV) def. sophomore Scott Strough (WC), 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (14-12); No. 5: Davor Vujkovic (MV) def. senior Kody Renner (WC), 6-4, 6-0; No. 6: Kevin Huggins (MV) def. sophomore Grant Peterson (WC), 6-1, 6-0.

•No. 1 doubles: Taylor/Alhamzawi (MV) def. Connell/Fuchs (WC), 8-2; No. 2: Teal/Vujkovic (MV) def. Collins/Strough (WC), 8-5; No. 3: Huggins/Goicochea (MV) def. Renner/Peterson (WC), 8-4.

Westminster College hosted St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Principia (Illinois) College on Saturday. Results were not available at press time.

The Blue Jays remain at home for another SLIAC match against Fontbonne University at 2 p.m. today.
