Trio of Westminster athletes receive SLIAC recognition

Junior Brier Skogsberg and freshmen Anna Houston and Logan Shoemaker garnered weekly St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference track and field acclaim Monday.

Skogsberg collected female track athlete honors after taking third in the 5,000 meters at the Central Methodist University Invitational last weekend in Fayette. Skogsberg finished in 19 minutes, 39.65 seconds, the sixth-best time in the SLIAC this season.

Houston - named the conference's female field athlete of the week - set school records in the triple jump, high jump and 100 hurdles at CMU. Houston won the triple jump (10.61 meters), placed second in the long jump (4.98), came in third in the 100 hurdles (:15.3) and finished fourth in the high jump (1.45).

Shoemaker claimed male field honors after placing third in the shot put at CMU with a school-record toss of 14.26.

Westminster competes in the Darrel Gourley Open at William Jewell College in Liberty on Saturday.
