School board, council incumbents retain seats

Coming in the top spot after Tuesday's election, incumbent Dennis Depping will retain his seat on the Fulton School Board and look forward to his fourth term. Depping, a 1986 Fulton High School graduate, won with 26.46 percent of the votes.

"I'm very happy to continue to serve the district," Depping said Tuesday night.

He said he plans to tackle the challenges facing the district to make it "even stronger." His No. 1 priority, Depping said, is improving Fulton Middle School. Depping said he wants to get to know students through data and have them connect more with the curriculum. He would like teachers to put a focus on student progress, comparing where they begin to where the end.

Another priority for Depping is to increase public involvement, which he said shows a care and concern for the district.

"I think the public concern - I think it makes us a stronger district," he said.

And with any concerns, Depping said he's here to listen.

"If you don't listen, you don't learn," Depping said.

Incumbent and board president Kristi Donohue will also keep her seat on the board with 23.95 percent of votes. Donohue, a Fulton resident since 2000, will begin her second term.

"I'm very excited," Donohue said. "I hope to take everything I've learned so far and continue learning and improving our district."

Like Depping, Donohue said she wants to see a turn around at the middle school and open communication lines between all of those who are a part of the district's make up.

"I want to be building a bridge between the board and community, teachers, parents. I want to see that built," Donohue said.

Donohue said she is open and approachable, and she hopes people see her genuine care for the district.

The other candidates received the following votes:

• Timothy Clay Caswell: 15.77 percent;

• Charles Baysinger: 12.97 percent;

• Darren Dzurick: 10.32 percent;

• Chad Bristol: 5.16 percent; and
