William Woods upends AMC foe Lindenwood-Belleville

Senior James Ball notched a pair of relief victories as the Owls swept an American Midwest Conference twinbill with the Lynx on Saturday.

Ball (5-1) threw 1 1/3 perfect innings to help lock down a 2-1 11-inning triumph in the backhalf for William Woods.

The Owls (23-7, 10-4 AMC) plated the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly to left by sophomore designated hitter Konrad Kemper (South Callaway) that drove in senior right fielder Nick Spagnola.

Kemper scored the game's first run on senior shortstop Javier Ledesma's RBI double in the top of the fourth inning, but Lindenwood tied the contest with its lone tally in the bottom of the frame.

Sophomore Dakota Smith finished 1-for-2, Ledesma was 1-for-3 and Kemper went 1-for-4 as William Woods outhit the Lynx 8-6.

Ball and senior starter Adam Brush combined to yield just one hit in toppling the Lynx 4-1 (13-20, 9-8 AMC) in the opener. Brush gave up an unearned run on one hit and struck out a pair in 3 1/3 innings. Ball fanned three and walked one over the final 3 2/3.

A Kemper sacrifice fly and a Ledesma squeeze bunt plated the first two Owl runs in the second inning. Lindenwood scored its run in the bottom of the third, while William Woods scored a run in the sixth and another in the seventh to top off its offense.

Senior first baseman Dustin Kremer went 3-for-3 with a run scored. Ledesma finished 1-for-1, while Spagnola and senior third baseman Austin Clapp each were 1-for-3 to account for the Owls' six hits.

William Woods plays an AMC doubleheader at Park University today. Games are scheduled for 1 and 3 p.m., respectively.
