North Callaway's Gilman, Emmons log wins at California Invitational

Sophomore Levi Gilman and freshman Nicole Emmons secured victories to direct the Thunderbirds and Ladybirds at the California Invitational last Friday.

Gilman topped the field in the boys' 110-meter hurdles in 17.48 seconds, while Emmons prevailed in the girls' discus with a heave of 98 feet, 2 inches.

Junior Manzell Payne also took second place for the North Callaway boys in the triple jump (38-1 1/2) and tied for second in the high jump (5-4).

Junior Tyler Mattes finished third in the 200 (:25.86), while freshman Skylar Barker claimed fourth in the 300 hurdles (:48.72). Sophomore Nicholas Douglas came in fifth in the shot put (36-1).

The Thunderbirds' 800 relay of Mattes, Barker, senior Steven Coleman and junior William Crawford placed third in 1:47. Mattes, senior Mason Trams, sophomore Samuel Slaughter and freshman D'Anthony Kemp were fourth in the 400 relay in :50.36.

Junior Erinn Bush also finished third for the Ladybirds in the discus (90-0), while placing fifth in the shot (27-7). Junior Nichole Kelly tied for second in the high jump (4-4).

Freshman Reyna Schmauch took second in the 1,600 in 5:55.34, while her older sister, junior Skylar, was third in 6:10.24. Freshman Alyssa Rinehart placed fifth in the event in 6:38.36.

Reyna Schmauch also finished third in the 800 in 2:38.24, while Skylar came in fifth in 2:45.24.

Sophomore Colleen Meffert took second in the 300 hurdles in :55.24. Meffert was also third in the 110 hurdles in :19.44, while freshman Kallie Jo Lehenbauer placed fourth in :20.71.

Sophomore Jaclyn McMurty garnered fourth place in the 200 in :32.07. Freshman Kyla Bertschinger (:15.2) and junior Lacy Morland (:15.54) came in fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 100.

The Ladybirds' 1,600 relay of Meffert, McMurty, Reyna Schmauch and junior Patri Eckert finished second in 4:42.66. In the 800 relay, Eckert, McMurty, Meffert and Lehenbauer claimed third place in 2:03.87.

Lehenbauer, McMurty, Bertschinger and freshman Carley VanBoening also took third in the 400 relay in :59.09.

North Callaway competed at Mexico on Tuesday. Results were not available at press time.
