Fulton falls short to Moberly

The Lady Hornets logged their only run in the bottom of the seventh inning of their 5-1 North Central Missouri Conference loss to the Lady Spartans on Monday at the high school athletic complex.

Moberly scored one in he fourth and two apiece in the sixth and seventh to go in front 5-0. Fulton junior pinch-runner Alanya Lawson scored on a bunt single by by sophomore left fielder Kenzi Archer for the closing margin.

Senior pitcher Brooke Baysinger bowed in a complete-game showing for the Lady Hornets. She allowed five earned runs on eight hits, walking two and striking out seven. Senior shortstop Dacrie Depping and senior center fielder Haylee Ebersole each were 1-for-2 with a walk.

Archer and freshman third baseman Samantha Weber each were 1-for-3 as Fulton (6-15, 3-7) collected four hits.

Weber and junior first baseman Baileigh Horstmeier each drove in a run in the No. 6 seed Lady Hornets' 4-3 win over No. 4 New Bloomfield in the third-place game of the South Callaway Tournament on Saturday in Mokane.

Freshman starter Kendalyn Roesner struck out two in the complete-game victory for Fulton. Roesner gave up an earned run, four hits and walked three.

Baysinger finished 2-for-3 to spark Fulton's eight-hit output. Weber was 1-for-2, while Horstmeier finished 1-for-3.

Roesner faced seven batters in just one-third of an inning in the Lady Hornets' 9-3 semifinal loss to No. 2 South Callaway. Roesner walked one and gave up six earned runs on five hits in taking the defeat. Weber was 2-for-3, Baysinger and freshman right fielder Emma Abbott were 1-for-3 and Horstmeier finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

Despite just four hits, Fulton upended No. 3 Eugene 5-4 in the opening round Saturday morning.

Horstmeier was 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored, while Weber finished 1-for-3 with an RBI. Abbott scored two runs and finished 1-for-3, while Lawson was also 1-for-3.

Baysinger struck out six to earn the complete-game victory. She gave up four earned runs on six hits, while issuing six walks.

The Lady Hornets play a North Central Missouri Conference game at Boonville at 5 p.m. today.
