Hornets' Gaines takes 16th at Fulton Invite

Fulton senior Grant Gaines paced all Callaway County runners with a 16th-place time in the 29th-annual Fulton Invitational on Saturday morning at the high school athletic complex.

Gaines clocked a time of 17 minutes, 45.84 seconds in the varsity boys' race. Mexico junior Malik Holman was the individual champion in 16:31.58.

South Callaway senior Terry Miles finished 43rd in 18:53.61 as the Bulldogs' lone participant. Fulton senior Chaz Ballard took 67th in 19:18.34, while New Bloomfield junior Charlie Schattgen was 73rd in 19:22.42.

Fellow New Bloomfield junior Nicholas Granich took 90th in 20:05.87 and Fulton sophomore Tanner Steffen finished 94th in 20:12.37.

Other Callaway finishers in the boys' division were New Bloomfield sophomore Marshall Woods, 105th in 20:30.08; Fulton sophomore Jared Eliuk, 110th in 20:34.72; Fulton senior Ian Shoemaker, 112th in 20:36.56; Fulton junior Luke Lohmeyer, 120th in 20:52.64; New Bloomfield junior Cameron Engelbrecht, 130th in 21:39, and Fulton junior Aaron Hickman, 140th in 22:28.43.

In the varsity girls' race, Fulton junior Rachel Quick led all Callaway runners by coming in 53rd in 23:45.07. Helias senior Kaitlyn Shea collected the individual title in 19:15.22.

South Callaway sophomore Amanda McDonald earned 66th in 24:23.82, New Bloomfield senior Sydni Bedsworth garnered 73rd in 24:42.56 and Fulton senior Megan Coleman finished 85th in 24:58.61.

North Callaway freshman Brooke Fischer placed 88th in 25:04.46, South Callaway sophomore Daryn Finney took 97th in 25:27.05 and Fulton sophomore Katie Lowry was 111th in 26:16.65.

Fulton freshman Mason Gaines took first place in the junior varsity boys' race, while four other Hornets notched top-20 finishes. Gaines paced the field in a time of 18:31.16 in guiding Fulton to a second-place showing with 44 points.

Freshman Nathan Quick finished third in 19:57.19, freshman Haydon Windsor came in 13th in 20:15.45 and sophomore Brenden Dungan earned 19th in 20:39.53.

South Callaway freshmen Austin Clubb and Nickolas Rodriguez were 28th and 44th, respectively, in 21:23.99 and 22:37.37. Sophomore freshman Caleb Diehl took 54th in 23:14.50.

Missouri School for the Deaf sophomore Chris Davis took 55th in 23:16.09, Kingdom Christian Academy sophomore Jacob Auer finished 79th in 25:20.67 and Fulton sophomore Caine Breedlove placed 82nd in 25:48.23.

In the junior varsity girls' race, South Callaway sophomore Caitlyn Chapman earned eighth place in 24:21.29. Fulton freshman Adrea Shadbolt took 11th in 24:48.86 and South Callaway freshman Elizabeth Luebbert came in 17th in 25:39.64.

South Callaway freshmen Greta Cross (26:52.46) and Ashley Potter (28:31.10) placed 22nd and 33rd, respectively. Fulton freshman Sydney York finished 55th in 38:22.33.

DA Davis of Fulton placed 35th in the middle school boys' race in 10:09.72. Fulton's Canyon Milligan took 40th in 10:15.96, teammate Zach Schwinke earned 48th in 10:31.95 and North Callaway's Finnian Clark was 49th in 10:35.17.

River Nolting, of North Callaway, finished 15th in the middle school girls' division in 10:59.44.

North Callaway's Kaylee English took 18th in 11:06.53, while teammates Kira Douglas (11:33.55) and Leigha Morris (11:53.16) placed 30th and 46, respectively.

Stephanie Long of Fulton clocked a time of 11:55.93 to come in 49th.

South Callaway, Kingdom Christian and MSD all compete at the Belle Invitational at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25. New Bloomfield competes at the Show-Me Conference championships at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30.
