New Bloomfield tops Eugene to open fall season

Senior starter Brady Wiler threw four shutout innings as the Wildcats opened their fall schedule with a 6-1 victory over the Eagles on Tuesday night.

Wiler didn't register a strikeout, but scattered six hits and didn't issue any walks in New Bloomfield's first game under new head coach Justin Forsythe.

"What we expected out of Brady was to come in and get people out and that's what he did," said Forsythe, who replaced Brandon Talbot. "He was always ahead (in the count) and never got rattled, and showed up for our first game of the year and that's a big statement for him."

The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on an RBI single by sophomore right fielder Zac Burton.

Wiler extended New Bloomfield's advantage to 3-0 on a two-run single in the fifth, scoring senior left fielder Sam Niedergerke and junior third baseman Tyler Fennewald.

The Wildcats capped off their scoring with three runs in the sixth on a two-run single by Niedergerke and an RBI double from senior center fielder Tucker Lane.

Eugene scored its lone run in the bottom of the sixth.

Lane, Niedergerke and Wiler each went 2-for-4 as New Bloomfield piled up 10 hits.

The Wildcats bowed in the junior varsity game 8-0 in five innings.

New Bloomfield opens play in the AA Bash - hosted by Eugene and Russellville - on Friday, Sept. 12.
