William Woods sets school records in AMC victory over Benedictine

The Owls set a new single-season program standard with their eighth shutout of the year in a 4-0 American Midwest Conference victory over the Bulldogs on Saturday.

Freshman goalkeeper Conor Cable saved all seven Benedictine shot attempts to tie the program's single-season school mark of five shutouts.

William Woods (9-2-2, 4-2-1 AMC) opened the scoring junior midfielder Alex Severino's goal in the 21st minute on an assist by senior midfielder Luca Stroeter.

Senior defender Alan Matthew sent the Owls into halftime up 2-0 after converting a penalty kick in the 34th minute. Sophomore defender Jesse Jordan and junior forward Andrew Bernal finished the Owls' day with tallies in the 57th and 65th minutes, respectively.

Matthew earned AMC Defensive Player of the Week thanks to his efforts in William Woods' outings last week.

The Owls host AMC foe Harris-Stowe at 5 tonight.
