The city of Holts Summit will be soliciting engineers to work on a recreational trail project in the city. The city received a $100,000 grant from Missouri Department of Natural Resources for phase II of the Holts Summit Trail Connection Project.
Phase I of the project was the trail starting at Hibernia Station Park. Phase II of the project calls for the creation of an asphalt trail around the pond at the city's Greenway Park, replacing the current mulch trail. It also calls for an asphalt trail to be added to connect the Greenway Park trail with the Hibernia Station Park trail. In total, about 6,000 linear feet of trail will be added with phase II.
Construction on phase I of the project already began and should be done by the end of November. At the Holts Summit Board of Aldermen meeting Tuesday night, the board approved a bill authorizing the city to start looking for engineers for phase II.
City Administrator Brian Crane said the city would like to select an engineer firm by November so it can bid the project out in the spring. The city hopes to have the trail complete by next fall.
