Lady Hornets roll by Hannibal, reach District 8 semifinals

The sixth-seeded Fulton Lady Hornets pumped out 17 hits in toppling the No. 3 Hannibal Lady Pirates 13-7 in the first round of the Class 3, District 8 Tournament on Wednesday night.

The Lady Hornets (7-16) play No. 2 seed Macon (12-12) in the semifinals at 5 p.m. today. Semifinal games were rained out Thursday.

Junior first baseman Baileigh Horstmeier was 3-for-5 with three runs batted in and two runs scored as six Fulton players had multi-hit outings. Senior shortstop Dacrie Depping finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three stolen bases, while freshman third baseman Samantha Weber went 3-for-5 with a run scored.

Senior starter Brooke Baysinger was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a pair of runs scored. Freshman second baseman Zoey Hrabovsky also finished 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and scored once, while senior center fielder Haylee Ebersole went 2-for-5 and scored two runs.

Baysinger registered nine strikeouts in the complete-game win. She gave up nine hits and walked one batter.

Top-seeded Mexico (10-13) will play No. 5 Kirksville (11-11) at 3 p.m. in today's other semifinal.
