North Callaway falls to EMO foe Bowling Green in season finale

Senior pitcher Danielle Cassidy struck out 18 in 7 2/3 innings as the Ladybirds fell to the Lady Bobcats 2-1 in eight innings to close out the regular season on Monday.

With the win, Bowling Green clinched the Eastern Missouri Conference regular season championship.

North Callaway (16-4, 9-1) tied the game at 1-all on senior catcher Kaysey Huddleston's leadoff home run to left field in the top of the sixth inning.

The Lady Bobcats (14-6, 10-0) logged the winning run on a two-out, RBI single in the bottom of the eighth.

Cassidy (9-3) allowed two runs - one earned - on five hits, while walking one.

Cassidy and senior shortstop Elaine Brinker each finished 1-for-3, while junior second baseman Karlie Popp was 1-for-4 as the Ladybirds managed just five hits.

"It was a well-fought game, they just didn't come out on the other end of it," North Callaway head coach Brandi Thomsen said. "It was a good, tough game to prepare us for districts."

North Callaway and Bowling Green played to a 6-6, four-inning tie. The Ladybirds finished their season at 7-3-1.

North Callaway - the No. 3 seed in the Class 2, District 11 tournament in Centralia - play No. 6 Father Tolton (13-9) at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
