New Bloomfield's Kelley sisters qualify for Class 1 state meet

Lady Wildcats' seniors Brooke and Ashley Kelley each punched a ticket to the state championship with their performances in the Class 1, Sectional 2 event on Monday at Marshfield Country Club.

The pair will compete at the 40th-annual MSHSAA Class 1 Girls' Golf Championships next Monday and Tuesday at the Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield.

The Lady Wildcats finished fourth in the team standings with a record-low score of 373. Helias tallied a 328 to win the team title, followed by Mt. Vernon (348) and Logan-Rogersville (360). Nevada (403), Seneca (404) and Eugene (425) accounted for the rest of the team scores.

Brooke Kelley - who finished 42nd at in the 2013 state championships - secured her return to the event with an 11th-place score of 13-over-par 83.

Ashley Kelley shot a +14, finishing in a three-way tie for 12th place and qualifying for her first-ever state meet.

Freshmen Alexandra Morningstar (+32) and Maddison Markland (+34) finished in ties for 29th and 34th place, respectively. Junior Hannah Cornman tallied a +45, tied with three others for 47th place.

Mt. Vernon's Ashley Childers shot a +1 to claim the individual title.
