Owls soccer team blanks Missouri Baptist

Senior defender Jacob Hawes came through with the match's only goal 22 seconds into the second overtime, sending the William Woods University Owls soccer team to the 1-0 AMC triumph over Missouri Baptist University on Tuesday night at Firley Field.

Sophomore goalkeeper Ivan Monterrubio made his first start of the season and posted one save to notch his first career win and shutout. William Woods University (8-1-1, 3-1 American Midwest Conference) recorded its sixth shutout of the season while extending its winning streak to three matches.

The Owls outshot Missouri Baptist University by a decisive 27-4 margin, including 12-1 in shots on goal, and had 11 corner kicks.

William Woods doesn't play again until 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, when it hosts AMC rival Columbia College.
